USU Softball Takes On South Dakota State And BYU Tuesday

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State softball returns to the Beehive State, traveling to Provo, Utah on Tues., March 18 to face South Dakota State at 2 p.m. (MT) and in-state rival Brigham Young at 4 p.m. (MT). Both games will be played at BYU's Gail Miller Field. The Aggies are 3-12 on the season after going 0-3 last weekend at the Cascade Clash Invitational in Oregon. USU is led by freshman SS Kelley Kaneshiro's .303 batting average, while junior P Lindsey Benson leads the team with a 5.13 ERA. South Dakota State is 6-15 on the year and is 1-2 in Summit League action. The Jackrabbits were 1-2 at Southern Utah last weekend. SDSU is led by junior OF Sam Heinzman's .382 average at the plate while junior P Jenna Marston has a 5.51 ERA with a 6-12 record. BYU is 13-11 on the season, splitting games against Nebraska at the UNLV Round Robin in Las Vegas, Nev. last weekend. Offensively, the Cougars are led by sophomore IF Angeline Quiocho's .391 average and defensively by senior P Christina Trice's 4-2 record with a 1.75 ERA. This is the first meeting between Utah State and South Dakota State, while BYU leads the all-time series against USU with a 29-24 record. The Aggies open WAC action with a three-game series at Reno, Nev., against Nevada on Friday and Saturday, March 21-22. Games start at 3 p.m. (MT) on both days, with a doubleheader scheduled for Friday. |
