Dana Peart Named Inaugural America First Credit Union Utah State Athlete Of The Week

LOGAN, Utah - Dana Peart has been named the inaugural America First Credit Union Utah State Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Sept. 2. Throughout the 2007-08 academic year, America First Credit Union will be sponsoring the weekly award, which is voted on by a state media panel.

Peart, a senior midfielder from Brigham City, Utah (Box Elder HS) scored both of Utah State's goals this past weekend as the Aggies won at Texas State (1-0) and lost at TCU (3-1). Peart now has 12 goals in her USU career to rank fifth all-time in school history, including 49 career shots on goal.

Peart was named a 2007 preseason all-Western Athletic Conference selection after earning second-team all-WAC honors during the 2006 campaign. Peart is also a two-time academic all-WAC honoree, receiving the award as both a sophomore and junior.

Nominees from other sports included:
Volleyball - Senior opposite side hitter Amanda Nielson (West Valley City, Utah) was named to the 2007 Montana State-Holiday Inn Classic all-tournament team after leading the Aggies to a third-place finish with a 1-2 record during the weekend. Nielson averaged 4.72 points, 4.11 kills, 1.78 digs, and 0.56 blocks per game during the tournament. Her best match of the weekend was against Washington State as she recorded a match-high 18 kills and hit .271 (18-5-48). She also recorded seven digs in the contest.

Women's Cross Country - Senior Stacie (Lifferth) Dorius (Layton, Utah) finished in seventh-place at the 2007 Utah State Open held at the American West Heritage Center this past weekend, helping USU's women's team to a fourth-place finish. Dorius ran the five-kilometer course in 17:53.6.

Men's Cross Country - Junior Seth Wold (Highland, Utah) finished first at the 2007 Utah State Open held at the American West Heritage Center to led Utah State's men's team to a second-place finish. Wold completed the eight-kilometer course in 26:10.2.

Football - Senior safety Antonio Taylor (Pomona, Calif.) had a game-high 10 tackles in Utah State's 23-16 home loss to UNLV. He also added one pass break up in the game.
