ON TAP - Utah State (5-13, 2-5 WAC) returns to the friendly confines of the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum (10,270) for the Aggies' home and regular-season finale on Friday, March 21, taking on Southern Utah (9-5-1, 5-2 WAC), in a gymnastics dual meet... Action starts at 6:30 p.m... Friday is "Senior Night" as the Aggies will honor their four seniors: Megan Tschida, Katie Omann, Kelly Patterson and Ana Rickard-Whitfield.

Utah State is currently ranked No. 41 in the RQS rankings while Southern Utah is at No. 28. A team's RQS is determined by the top three road scores and then the highest scores for a team during the year.

UP NEXT - Utah State heads to the Western Athletic Conference Championships on Friday, March 29 at Boise State's Taco Bell Arena, starting at 6 p.m. (MT).

AGGIE ALUM / TEACHER VS. MENTOR - Southern Utah head coach Scott Bauman is a 1990 Utah State graduate. Bauman, who is in his 17th year at the helm of the Thunderbird program, spent seven years as an undergraduate and graduate assistant coach for Aggie head coach Ray Corn.

ABOUT UTAH STATE - The Aggies are 5-13 on the year after placing third in a quad meet with No. 23 Kentucky and No. 50 Centenary, hosted by No. 37 Texas Woman's. The Aggies ended with 193.900 points, finishing behind meet-winner Kentucky's 195.200 and runner-up Texas Woman's with 194.200, but ahead of Centenary's 192.025.

USU has a team total 193.05 RQS, which ranks sixth in the WAC and eighth in the North Central region. The Aggies are second in the WAC and seventh in the region on floor with a 48.760 RQS, as well as a 48.625 on vault (fourth in WAC, seventh in region), 48.440 on bars (fifth in WAC, eighth in region) and 47.740 on beam (sixth in WAC, eighth in region).

Individually, freshman Nicole Simoneau's 9.840 RQS on bars ranks her third in WAC and fourth in the region. Fellow freshman, Jasmine Minion has vaulted up the rankings and is second in the conference and tied for eighth in the region on vault with a 9.840 RQS, as well as a 9.825 RQS on floor which is good for third in the league and 12th in the region. Sophomore Heather Heinrich leads USU on beam with a 9.700 RQS, ranking 16th in the WAC. In the all-around, junior Nicki Felley is eighth in the conference and 16th in the region with a 38.520 RQS.

Other top 10 WAC rankings include senior Megan Tschida's 9.815 RQS on floor, good for eighth in the conference, while Heinrich is eighth in the league on vault with a 9.785 RQS and 10th in the all-around with an RQS of 38.275.

LAST TIME OUT - DENTON, Texas - After leading through two rotations, 45th-ranked Utah State couldn't maintain its lead down the stretch, finishing third in a gymnastics quad meet with No. 23 Kentucky and No. 50 Centenary, hosted by No. 37 Texas Woman's Friday night at TWU's Kitty Magee Arena.

The Aggies ended with 193.900 points, finishing behind meet-winner Kentucky's 195.200 and runner-up Texas Woman's with 194.200, but ahead of Centenary's 192.025.

Friday was USU's first trip to Denton, Texas since 2006, which was also the last time that the Aggies tangled with either Texas Woman's or Centenary and was the first time Utah State had faced Kentucky since 2005.

The result pushes USU's record to 5-13 on the year. Friday's score was the Aggies' third-highest of the year, all done in the last three meets after two scores topping the 194 mark in the previous two outings.

Freshman Jasmine Minion posted USU's best finish of the night, tying for first on floor with a career-best 9.900, USU's first 9.900 this season. Minion also tied for second on vault with a 9.850.

Fellow freshman Nicole Simoneau also tied for second, posting a 9.825 on bars, while sophomore Heather Heinrich was tied for second in the all-around with 38.875, just shy of her career-best of 39.000. Heinrich also was the Aggies' top finisher on beam, placing sixth with a 9.650.

Utah State notched a 48.975 on floor, its second-highest this year, while also tallying a second-highest 48.850 on vault. USU's 48.525 on bars was its third-highest on the year while also logging a 47.550 on beam.

ABOUT SOUTHERN UTAH - The 28th-ranked Thunderbirds are 9-5-1 overall, after tying, that's right, tying, with BYU on Monday, each scoring 195.000. SUU is 5-2 in WAC action, currently in second-place behind Boise State's 6-2 league ledger.

The Flippin' Birds have a team RQS of 194.48, which ranks second in the WAC and fifth in the North Central region, including 48.670 on vault (third in WAC/fifth in region), 48.905 on bars (second in WAC/third in region), 48.725 on beam (third in WAC/fifth in region) and 48.665 on floor (fourth in WAC/eighth in region).

Individually, sophomore Elise Wheeler has a team-leading 9.815 RQS on vault and a team-best 9.825 RQS on floor, as well as a 39.080 floor RQS which also leads the team. Wheeler adds a 9.795 RQS on bars and a 9.695 beam RQS.

Senior Erin Morgan posts a 9.805 RQS on bars while junior Kellie Dangerfield has a team-leading 9.84 RQS on beam and a 9.800 bars RQS in addition to a 38.83 all-around RQS. Freshman Shannon Coughlin adds a 9.755 RQS on both vault and floor, while senior Tehani Douglas posts an RQS of 9.740 on bars and 9.720 on floor.

In Monday's dual with BYU, Wheeler won the bars with a 9.900 as well as winning the all-around with a 39.325. She was second on floor (9.850), tied for second on vault (9.800) and third on beam (9.775).

SERIES HISTORY VS. SOUTHERN UTAH - USU has already faced SUU twice this season, losing 196.000-192.250 in a dual on Feb. 4 at Cedar City and finishing behind the T-Birds in a tri-meet with Utah on Feb. 22 at Salt Lake City. The host Utes won the meet with a 197.200 while the Thunderbirds logged a 193.100 and the Aggies finished with a 189.650.

Utah State is 36-21 all-time against Southern Utah, including 21-4 at Logan.

The Aggies faced off with the Thunderbirds in back-to-back home-and-home duals last season, losing at Cedar City, 194.575-192.275, on Feb. 16 before bouncing back to win, 195.675-194.700, at Logan a week later on Feb. 23.

At last year's WAC Championships, SUU was second with a 195.225 while USU was third at 195.175.

REGIONAL HISTORY - In the 30 year history of the USU gymnastics program, the Aggies have qualified for regionals 26 times, with the highest finish coming in 1982 when the Aggies placed second and went on to the National Championships, where they placed ninth.

The most recent appearance at the regional championships by USU was in 2007 when the Aggies placed sixth at the North Central Regional meet.

2008 WAC PRESEASON RANKINGS - Utah State was tabbed in a tie for third in the Western Athletic Conference preseason gymnastics poll. This is the first season that the conference has done a preseason poll.

The Aggies, who garnered one first-place vote and 23 points, are tied with Boise State, who received the same amount of first-place votes and points.

Southern Utah had three first-place votes and 27 points, tying with defending WAC champion Sacramento State who also had 27 points but just one first-place vote. Cal State Fullerton and San Jose State round out the poll at fifth and sixth with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

The 2008 WAC gymnastics championship will take place at the Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho on Saturday, March 29.

IN THE NATION - Utah State gymnastics began the 2008 season ranked 33rd in the country according to the Troester Women's Preseason Coaches Poll, before falling as low as No. 46 in the Jan. 21 rankings. USU is at No. 41 in this week's RQS rankings.

Five USU opponents are ranked in this week's Top 25: No. 3 Utah (Feb. 22), No. 9 Oklahoma (Feb. 9), 13th-ranked Denver (Feb. 9 and Feb. 29), 17th-ranked Boise State (Jan. 11, Jan. 22) and No. 19 Kentucky (March 14)... Other Aggie opponents just outside the top 25 are No. 28 Southern Utah (Feb. 4, Feb. 22, March 21), 30th-ranked BYU (Feb. 15, March 10), No. 34 San Jose State (March 7), 36th-ranked Sacramento State (Jan. 18), No. 37 New Hampshire (Feb. 15) and 39th-ranked Texas Woman's (March 14).

WESTERN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE - The Aggies return four all-WAC honorees, in seniors Katie Omann (first-team vault) and Megan Tschida (first-team floor), junior Nicki Felley (second-team bars, floor) and sophomore Heather Heinrich (first-team vault).

Tschida also earned WAC Specialist of the Week honors (Feb. 26, 2007).

Five Aggie returners also earned academic all-WAC accolades in seniors Katie Omann, Ana Rickard-Whitfield, junior Nicki Felley and sophomores Heather Heinrich and Devin Markle.

MINION TABBED WAC GYMNASTICS SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK - Utah State gymnast Jasmine Minion has been named the Western Athletic Conference Gymnastics Specialist of the Week it was announced by the conference office Monday, for the week of March 10-16.

Minion, a freshman from Memphis, Tenn. (Bolton HS) recorded a career-best 9.900 on floor Friday at the Texas Woman's quad meet. The mark tied her for first in the event and is Utah State's first 9.900 on any event this season. Minion's 9.900 is the second-best mark on floor in the WAC this season and ranks as the fourth-highest score on floor in USU history. She becomes the 15th Aggie in school history to notch a 9.900 on floor. Minion also posted a career-best mark on vault with a 9.875, placing her third at BYU last Monday. The 9.875 on vault is the fourth-best mark in USU history as she becomes just the ninth athlete in USU history to post such a score on the apparatus. Minion's 9.875 on vault is the second-highest score in the WAC this season in the event, as she is the only second gymnast in the conference to post that score.

This is the first conference honor for a USU gymnast this season after having three gymnast of the week and two specialist of the week accolades last year.

2008 TEAM CAPTAINS - Seniors Kelly Patterson and Katie Omann along with junior Nicki Felley are serving as team captains. This is Patterson's third season in the position, while it is Omann's and Felley's first.

HEAD COACH RAY CORN - Ray Corn has created and maintained a tradition of success in his 30 years at Utah State, both in the gym and in the classroom.

As the only coach in USU's Division I gymnastics history, he has led the Aggies to the postseason 26 times, including five trips to the national championships. Corn owns an overall record of 436-426-2, with a regular-season record of 383-270-2.

Corn was named the Midwest Regional Coach of the Year in 1991, earned Big West Co-Coach of the Year honors in 1994 and was named Big West Coach of the Year in 1998 and 2001. He also earned Coach of the Year honors in the High Country Athletic Conference in 1986, 1987 and 1988 and was named WGC Coach of the Year in 2005.

Corn has coached three All-Americans, three Olympians, two World Championship competitors and had nine gymnasts qualify for the NCAA National Championships.

Since 1991, 32 gymnasts have earned academic All-America honors 50 times. USU gymnasts have also received 86 academic all-conference accolades.

Jackie Dillon - Competed as an exhibitioner on bars at Boise State, scoring an 8.95... Also an exhibitioner in the Sac State dual, posting a season-high 9.55 on vault and an 8.45 on bars... Did not compete in the home Boise State dual... In the USU lineup officially for the first time in the Cal State Fullerton dual, she scored a 9.450 on bars, good for 10th-place... Posted a 9.050 (11th) on bars and a 9.625 (9th) on floor at the Southern Utah dual... Logged a 9.675 on floor (17th) at the Denver quad meet, as well as a 9.525 on vault as a exhibitioner... Tallied a 9.675 on floor (11th) in the BYU/New Hampshire tri-meet... Nicki Felley - Was second in the all-around at Boise State, scoring a 36.775... Against Sac State, she posted 9.675 on beam (5th), 9.650 (T-5th) on bars, as well as tying season high with 9.600 (T-6th) on vault and scoring a 9.100 (11th) on floor, totaling a USU-best 38.025 (3rd) in the all-around... Also tallied a career-best on the floor with a 9.900 at San Jose State with Boise State and Seattle Pacific (1/26), a mark that is tied for 19th in school history and tied for the best score for USU... Had season averages of 38.635 in all-around, 9.686 on floor exercise, 9.625 on vault, 9.325 on beam and 9.700 on bars... Her 9.700 bars average is the 14th-best single-season average in USU history... In the Sac State dual, tallied 9.650 (4th) on vault and 9.600 (7th) on beam, as well as 8.950 (12th) on floor and 8.850 (12th) on bars, for a total of a 37.050 (6th) in the all-around, for a season high... Tallied season-highs in all three events she competed in at home against Boise State with a 9.800 (3rd) on beam, 9.750 (4th) on vault and 9.700 (7th) on bars... At Cal State Fullerton, she posted season-high 37.450 in all-around (3rd), as well as season-highs 9.775 (3rd) on vault and 9.450 (T-10th) on floor... Posted a 9.850 on vault at the WAC Championships (3/31), a mark that ties for No. 21 on USU's best individual scores... Had a season-high 9.850 on beam against Southern Utah (2/23)... Posted a season-high 9.750 on floor at BYU and against Oregon State (3/9)... Also tallied a season-high 9.750 on bars vs. Minnesota (3/17)... Finished 10th in the all-around at the WAC Championships with a season-best 38.750, also placing tied for third in the vault with teammate Katie Omann (9.850) to earn first-team all-WAC honors, tied for 13th in the bars (9.725), tied for 19th on beam (9.750) and 30th on floor (9.425)... Maegan Snodgrass - Was an exhibitioner at the Boise State dual, with 9.55 on vault... Suffered an injury during warm-ups of the Sac State dual (1/18) and has not competed in any meets since.

HIGH SCHOOL: Competed as a Level 10 gymnast with Olympus Gymnastics for Mary Wright... Was a member of the three-time club state champions... In 2005 she finished 15th in the all-around at the Regional Championships... Was also an Olympic weight lifter, finishing seventh in the nation in her age and weight group... In 2006, she won both the 18 & under and the 21 & under USA Weightlifting National Juniors Championship, setting an American National Schoolage Record in the snatch event... Graduated from Bingham High School with a 3.7 grade point average.

Megan Tschida - Was USU's highest finisher on floor exercise at the Boise State dual, by tying for fourth (9.725), as well as finishing eighth on bars (9.450)...
