Aggies Tied For Seventh After Day One At WAC Championships

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Junior Devin Daniels (Hyde Park, Utah) carded two birdies and shot a two-over par 74 to lead Utah State on the first day of competition at the 47th annual Western Athletic Conference Golf Championships here Monday.

Daniels, who finished second individually at the 2007 WAC Championships, is currently tied for seventh-place after 18-holes, while Utah State is in seventh-place as a team, along with Louisiana Tech, after shooting a 23-over par 311.

New Mexico State is leading the tournament after day one with a two-under par 286, while Boise State is in second-place after shooting a nine-over 297. Fresno State is in third-place (305), followed by San Jose State (307), Nevada (308), Idaho (309), Utah State (311), Louisiana Tech (311), and Hawai'i (324).

Joining Daniels in the top-15 for Utah State after the first day of competition is junior Tyler Labrum (Roosevelt, Utah) who shot a four-over 76 and is tied for 12th. Senior Jeremy Pack (Salt Lake City, Utah) is currently tied for 26th after shooting a seven-over 79, while junior Toph Peterson (Logan, Utah) is tied for 35th (82) and freshman Dan Heath is tied for 42nd (83).

The 54-hole tournament will continue on Tuesday with the second round beginning at 7:30 a.m. (PT). The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Wednesday. Live scoring is available throughout the week at wacsports.com.
