Kevin Robinson Named America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete Of The Week

LOGAN, Utah - Kevin Robinson has been named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Sept. 23. Throughout the 2007-08 academic year, America First Credit Union will be sponsoring the weekly award, which is voted on by a state media panel. Robinson, a senior wide receiver/kick returner from Fresno, Calif., had a total of 223 return yards (144 kick return, 79 punt return) in Utah State's 23-20 loss to San Jose State Saturday, including an 82-yard kick return for a touchdown. It was Robinson's first kick return for a score since his freshman season of 2004, when he had a 94-yard return against Louisiana-Monroe. Overall, it was his 23rd career touchdown, moving him into sole possession of seventh-place on USU's career list. Robinson also had a season-long 53-yard punt return Saturday, his longest since an 87-yarder against San Jose State in 2005. With his performance on Saturday, Robinson now leads the WAC in all-purpose yards, ranks third in kick returns and fourth in punt returns. He also ranks eighth in the NCAA in punt returns and 16th in kick returns. Robinson was also named the WAC special teams player of the week for the second time in his career, the first being in Oct. 2005. Robinson and the Aggies will take on the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah, Saturday, Sept. 29. Kick is at 1 p.m.
Nominees from other sports included: WOMEN'S TENNIS - Freshman Hailey Swenson (North Salt Lake City, Utah) recorded a 2-2 record at the Utah Fall Classic hosted by BYU last weekend. After losing in the first round of the tournament, Swenson defeated Alyssa Pyne (NS) and Jocelyn Jenson (7-6, 6-3) in the consolation finals before losing to Greer Satherline (6-4, ret.) in the semifinals. SOCCER - Freshman Lauren Hansen (Camano Island, Wash.) scored her second goal of the season on Sunday in Utah State's 2-1 loss at Eastern Washington. In two matches last week, Hanson led the team with six shots. Overall, Hansen has scored two goals this year giving her a total of four points. VOLLEYBALL - Senior opposite side hitter Amanda Nielson (West Valley City, Utah) led Utah State to a 1-1 WAC record last weekend with a four-game loss at 25th-ranked New Mexico State and a three-game win at Louisiana Tech. Against NMSU, Nielson recorded her second career triple-double as she had a match-high 19 kills to go along with 10 digs and a career-high tying 10 block assists. She then hit a blistering .464 against LTU as she had a match-high 16 kills to go along with five digs and four blocks. For the weekend, Nielson hit .204 and averaged 6.29 points, 5.00 kills, 2.14 digs, 2.00 blocks and 0.29 service aces per game.
