Seth Wold Named America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week

LOGAN, Utah - Junior cross country runner Seth Wold was named America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, which is voted on by a state media panel, for the period ending on Sunday, Oct 28.

Wold won the award after being named WAC cross country Athlete of the Year following his record setting performance at the WAC Championships Saturday.

Wold a native of Highland, Utah, placed first in the eight-kilometer race with a time of 23:16.63, setting a new all-time conference record in that event. Wold, one of seven Aggie runners to finish in the top 10, helped Utah State win its third straight WAC Cross Country Championship.

FOOTBALL - Sophomore safety James Brindley (Grass Valley, Calif.) had a game and career-high 11 tackles in Utah State's 31-21 loss against Louisiana Tech on Saturday.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - Senior Amy Egan (Greensburg, Pa.) led Utah State's women's cross country team to a third-place finish at the WAC Championships on Saturday as she finished 11th individually in the five-kilometer race with a time of 17:34.25 to earn second-team all-WAC honors.

SOCCER - Senior midfielder Abby Hunt (Salt Lake City, Utah) scored two goals and had one assist to lead Utah State to a pair of home wins against Hawai'i (3-2) and San Jose State (4-0) last weekend. Against the Rainbow Wahine, Hunt scored USU's first goal of the match in the 12th minute and the scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute to break a 2-2 tie. Against San Jose State, she added an assist in the first-half.

VOLLEYBALL - Senior opposite side hitter Amanda Nielson (West Valley City, Utah) led Utah State to a 3-0 record last week with wins against Weber State (3-2), Utah Valley (3-1) and Fresno State (3-1). Against WSU, Nielson recorded a season-high 31 kills and a career-high 22 digs. She then had 26 kills, seven digs and seven blocks against UVU, and finished the week by recording 26 kills, eight digs and six blocks against FSU. For the week, Nielson averaged 7.42 points, 6.38 kills, 2.85 digs, 1.38 blocks and 0.31 service aces per game. She also extended her streak of 20-plus kills to five straight matches and helped USU extend its season-high winning streak to five.
