Hadfield Honored As America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete Of The Week
April 21, 2008
LOGAN, Utah - Utah State track and field athlete Blake Hadfield has been named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, April 20, it was announced on Monday. The award is voted on by a state media panel. This past Saturday at the USU Mark Faldmo Invitational, Hadfield, a junior from Millville, Utah (Mountain Crest HS) posted two NCAA regional marks. Hadfield won the triple-jump with a career-best distance of 49-05.00, just a half inch off the USU school record held by Bruce McCannel of 49-5.50 in 2000. He was also the top collegiate finisher in the long jump with a second-place distance of 24-4.25, which is not only also a personal best, but the eighth-best mark in school history. Hadfield's long jump mark is the second-best in the Western Athletic Conference this year, while his triple jump distance is the fourth-best in the league. The honor is Hadfield's first career USU Athlete of the Week award and he becomes the third member of the men's track and field team to receive the weekly honor this year and the first for the outdoor season after Nick Karren (Feb. 11) and John Strang (March 3) earned the accolade during indoor competition. This weekend, the Aggie track and field teams will be sending some athletes to Berkeley, Calif., to compete in the Cal Berkeley Invitational while others will be heading to Provo, Utah to compete in the Clarence Robison Invitational and some distance runners will be competing in the Oregon Relays at Eugene, Ore.
