Erin Stratton Named America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete Of The Week

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State women's track athlete Erin Stratton has been named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Jan. 27, it was announced on Monday. The award is voted on by a state media panel. Stratton, a sophomore from Aurora, Colo., led Utah State to a 3-1 record in a five-team dual at the Cougar Invitational hosted by Washington State over the weekend as she won the mile with a conference leading and personal-best time of 4:59.87, winning by nearly three seconds. With that time, Stratton moves into eighth-place on the USU women's indoor top 10 list in the mile. The Aggies continue action this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-2, in Colorado Springs, Colo., at the Air Force Invitational.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - Senior center Jenny Gross (Caldwell, Idaho) led Utah State last weekend in a pair of home losses to New Mexico State (71-58) and Louisiana Tech (71-56). Against NMSU, Gross scored a career-high 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting, to go along with four rebounds and two blocks. Against LTU, she had eight points to go along with three steals, two rebounds and two blocks. For the week, she averaged 13.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game and shot 50.0 percent from the field (8-of-16) and 84.6 percent from the free throw line (11-13). GYMNASTICS - Junior Nicki Felley (Flower Mound, Texas) won the all-around in both meets during the week, posting a season-high 38.775 on Tuesday in Utah State's 195.700-192.400 loss to Boise State, and a 38.650 in USU's narrow 191.700-191.600 victory at Cal State Fullerton on Sunday for the Aggies' first win of the season. Against BSU, she had a season-high 9.775 on floor for fifth-place and tied a season-best with a 9.650 on beam for seventh-place. Against CSF, she posted a 38.650 as she placed second on the beam (9.600) and tied her season-high with a 9.650 on bars to finish fifth. MEN'S TENNIS - Sophomore Oscar Ericsson (Stockholm, Sweden) led Utah State's men's tennis team as the Aggies were swept, 7-0, at Utah on Saturday afternoon. Ericsson fell at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2, against Utah's Miron Mann. He also paired with senior Fernando Gallegos at No. 2 doubles in an 8-5 loss. MEN'S TRACK - Junior Nick Karren (Duchesne, Utah) recorded a conference leading and personal-best time of 48.66 as he won the 400m at the Washington State Cougar Indoor Invitational during the weekend. Karren also was a leg in the 4x400m relay team that posted a conference-leading time by winning the race in 3:17.24. Karren's efforts helped the USU men post a 2-1 record in the four-team dual-scoring meet.
